GREENVILLE, N.C (WNCT) – A Halifax County man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly trying to kill someone in Pitt County.

Jocquez Davis of Enfield was arrested by deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked in the Pitt County Detention Center on Tuesday and held on a $1 million secured bond.

Davis has been charged with attempted murder and two counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling. He turned himself in to the Halifax County Magistrate’s Office on Tuesday.

Officials said on June 26 at 1:16 a.m., deputies responded to a home on William Horice Circle in Greenville for a report of shots fired. They found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim, who was not identified by officials, was taken to ECU Health hospital for treatment and later released.

Deputies also determined bullets from the shooting struck a home occupied by several adults and a 3-year-old. Nobody was hurt there.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Services Unit responded to assist in the investigation. It was discovered that an altercation between several individuals had taken place.  The altercation escalated until it resulted in the shooting.

Officials said the investigation is on-going, and more charges are possible.
