Man charged with murder in fatal Greenville stabbing

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - A man has been charged with murder after the Pitt County Sheriff's Office said he fatally stabbed another man Tuesday morning.

Melvin L. Tyson, 48, was stabbed in his stomach with a knife sometime before 5:00 a.m., according to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office.

Alvin J. Tyson Jr., 30, has been arrested and charged with an open count of murder in connection to the case.

Alvin is not related to Melvin Tyson, although the Sheriff's Office said they had been good friends. 

It happened on Kathryn Lane off Stantonsburg Road.

Alvin was given a $750,000 bond.

He is scheduled to make a court appearance on July 25.

The Sheriff's Office said alcohol was involved, and the investigation is ongoing.
