Man confesses to sexually assaulting 13-year-old child, officials say

A man is behind bars under a $1 million bond after officials said he confessed to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old child.

On Monday, the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office investigated an incident involving the sexual assault of a child.

During the investigation, detectives learned that 39-year-old Carlton G. Walston of the Mount Olive area of Duplin County sexually assaulted a 13-year-old child in both Duplin and Wayne counties.

The assaults have allegedly been occurring for several years, detectives said. 

Detectives along with the Mount Olive Police Department conducted interviews with Walston where he confessed to the alleged sexual assaults.

Walston was charged by the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office with four counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of sexual battery, two counts of sex act: sub-parent or custodian, two counts of contributing delinquency of a juvenile and two counts of first-degree statutory sex offense.

He was also charged by the Mount Olive Police Department with four counts of sexual offense with a child, four counts of sexual battery and four counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Walston was sent to the Duplin County Jail under a $1 million bond.
