Woman charged for harboring suspect of Jacksonville deadly shooting

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) woman has been charged for harboring the suspect of a fatal shooting reported on Davis Street in Jacksonville.

On Wednesday around 7:31 a.m. the Jacksonville Police Department was dispatched to a report of a shooting on the 1200 block of Davis Street.  

Police said they found a 23-year old man lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.

Jacksonville Public Safety first responders immediately began CPR. 

The victim, identified as Da’shaun J. Pearsall of Willard, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Tyquan Sykree Hayes, who was wanted for murder in connection to this incident, was located at a hotel in Wilmington, police said.

Hayes was taken into custody Thursday around 10:00 PM after detectives observed him leaving the hotel.

Jacksonville Police Department detectives, with the assistance of the Wilmington Police Department, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the NC State Bureau of Investigation were able to take Hayes into custody without incident.

“The assistance from our Federal and State partners as well as the Wilmington Police Department was instrumental in bringing in Hayes safely,” said Lieutenant Richard Kellum, a JPD Investigations Supervisor.

Hayes was sent to the Onslow County Jail without bond.

The investigation led to charges for Mieonna Diasia Jackson, 21, of Jacksonville. 

Police said that Jackson was found with Hayes and charged with harboring a fugitive and is held under $2,500 bond at the Onslow County Jail.

“This remains an active and open investigation with additional charges anticipated,” said JPD Investigations Captain Mike Capps.

Tyquan Sykree Hayes, 24, was located at a hotel in Wilmington, NC. He was taken into custody after detectives saw him leaving the hotel.

Jacksonville Police, Wilmington Police, the FBI Street Task Force and the State Bureau of Investigation were able to take Hayes into custody without incident.

Hayes is being held at the Onslow County detention center without bond.

Investigators said Tyquan Sykree Hayes, a 24-year-old, black male who lives in Jacksonville, is wanted on an open count of murder.

According to police, Hayes allegedly fatally shot Da’shaun J. Pearsall, 23, of Willard, whose body was found by first responders at 7:31 a.m. on Wednesday on the 1200 block of Davis Street.

The Jacksonville Police Department has identified a man who was shot and killed on Davis Street Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday around 7:31 a.m. the Jacksonville Police Department was dispatched to a report of a shooting on the 1200 block of Davis Street.  

Police said they found a 23-year old man lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.

Jacksonville Public Safety first responders immediately began CPR. 

The victim, identified as Da’shaun J. Pearsall of Willard, was pronounced dead on the scene.

A preliminary investigation showed that a suspect vehicle fled the area. 

Police have been canvassing the area to locate the vehicle and suspect. 

The suspect remains at large.

“The investigation has progressed since this morning,” said Deputy Chief Ashley Weaver. Detectives have conducted interviews throughout the day.  A Search Warrant for a residence near the shooting scene was executed and a search conducted.  We have identified a person of interest at this time and are continuing to investigate any and all leads.”

The case was considered to be an isolated incident with no threat to public safety.

“The victim and suspected shooter were known to each other,” said Deputy Chief Weaver. We appreciate the assistance of the public and ask that anyone who may have been in the Davis Street area and may have seen something to give us or Crime Stoppers a call or text right away.”

The Jacksonville Police Department said one man is dead and a suspect is on the run after a fatal shooting on Wednesday on Davis Street.

JPD said at 7:31 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1200 block of Davis Street.

At the scene, officers found a 23-year-old man lying in the road, suffering from a gunshot wound.

First responders immediately began CPR on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are withholding the victim’s name until his family is notified.

Investigators said a suspect vehicle left the area shortly after the shooting, and they are looking for that vehicle and the suspect.

Police said they believe this shooting is an isolated incident, and that there is no threat to public safety in this case.

The shooting remains under investigation.
