There has been a significant increase in vehicle break-ins reported in the city of Havelock, police said.

The Havelock Police Department said so far this year they have received 47 reports for breaking and entering of vehicles.

Last year they received just 12 reports in the same time period.

Police said the suspects are taking loose change, sunglasses and other valuable items.

Authorities want to remind the community to remove all valuable items from your car and to lock the doors.

They have received reports from South Forest Drive, John Court and Townhouse Drive.
