A robbery suspect has been arrested after police conducted a chase in Havelock.
The Havelock police responded to the Jim Dandy on 620 Fontana Boulevard in reference to a robbery on Monday around 1:54 p.m.
The suspect left the area in a red, full-size pickup truck, police said.
Police proceeded after the suspect vehicle on N.C. Hwy. 101, heading out of town towards Harlowe.
The suspect vehicle turned into an empty field across from Hills Mobile Home Park on 1500 N.C. Hwy. 101.
The vehicle turned around in the field and while exiting the field, struck an occupied golf cart being driven on the private property, police said.
Police said the person driving the golf cart sustained minor injuries.
The suspect vehicle returned back to N.C. Hwy. 101 and continued towards Harlowe.
Havelock police continued to try to catch up with and overtake the suspect vehicle.
After a couple of miles, due to safety concerns, police ended the pursuit.
Just after ending the pursuit, police said the suspect vehicle collided with the rear of another vehicle near 2945 N.C. Hwy. 101.
When the vehicle was struck, it flipped into a ditch off N.C. Hwy 101, police said.
The suspect vehicle continued on N.C. Hwy. 101 towards Harlowe.
Police stopped to render assistance to the collision victim and sent out a ‘be on the lookout’ to surrounding agencies for the suspect vehicle.
Around 2:53 p.m., five Havelock officers responded for a mutual aid call from Craven County Sheriff’s Office on 275 Godette School Road in reference to the robbery suspect being held up at that location.
Around 5 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody by Havelock Police Department.
Damien Andre Turner, 24, of Havelock, was arrested and charged with:
- Felony larceny
- Felony flee to elude arrest
- Larceny of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a stolen vehicle
Turner was sent to the Craven County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
