Local graduate to attend US Air Force Academy

Local graduate to attend US Air Force - GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) --- Pitt County Schools will graduate more than 1,600 high school seniors this year.

J.H. Rose High schools had more than 330 graduates walk across the stage Friday night.

Megan Reisch was just one of them.

Reisch said, "I'm kind of sad that I don't get summer with my friends because everyone is looking forward to that."

Reisch said she views graduation a little differently than some of her classmates because of where she is moving after.

"Starting June 28th, I'm going to the United States Air Force Academy," said Reisch.

Reisch is one of only 1,100 students from across the county accepted to the Air Force Academy.

She says she's a big sports fan. Reisch said her favorite sport is lacrosse.

"Teamwork is extremely important to me," said Reisch. "Just having that environment and having those people that support you is really awesome to be around."

Reisch was never in ROTC during her time at J.H. Rose.

In fact, she said she never planned on attending the Air Force Academy until recently.

Reisch has more than 400,000 dollars in scholarships. She said she will move forward on a new path with the love of her parents close behind.

"Going into freshman year I had no idea that this is something that I wanted to pursue and trust me neither did they," said Reisch. "They have been very supportive and I'm really grateful for that."

Reisch moves to Colorado Springs, Colorado in just two weeks.

She said she will figure out what path she wants to take in the military during her time in school.
