Luis Gimenez broke a six-all tie with an RBI single to left field that scored Matthew Barefoot as Campbell notched a walk-off win against No, 9 ECU Wednesday night at Jim Perry Stadium. With the win, the Camels improve to 2-2 on the year while the Pirates fall to 3-1.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Barefoot reached on an infield single to short stop them moved up to second on AJ Hirica’s base hit to center before Gimenez plated the game-winner with his lone hit of the chilly night.

Wyatt Tyson (1-1) earned the win in relief allowing one run (earned) on one hit with one strikeout. Starter Seth Johnson fanned a career-best five batters over four innings surrendering one hit and walking two. From the fifth on, the Camels rolled arms out on the field every frame with five pitchers getting work from Johnson to Tyson in Landry Moore (1.0 IP, 1 K), Julian Blackburn (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K), Jonathan Tyler (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K), Barefoot (0.1 IP, 2 Hs, 3 Rs, 2 BBs) and Tyson Messer (0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 Rs, 3 BBs, 1 K).

Zach Barnes (0-1) suffered the loss for the Pirates giving up one run (earned) on three hits with a strikeout in one-third of an inning. Making his first career start, Gavin Williams was impressive fanning a career-high seven batters, walking one while allowing a run (unearned) on two hits in four innings. The Pirates got relief work from Trey Benton (2.0 IP, 2 Hs, 1 R), Cam Colmore (0.0 IP, 2 Rs), Evan Voliva (1.0 IP, 1 K) and Ryder Giles (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 Rs).

Campbell jumped out to an early 2-0 lead scoring a run in the third and fifth innings. Barefoot plated the game’s first run on a sac fly pushing across Cameron Witt before the Camels scored two frames later on Collin Wolf’s RBI base knock.

The Camels extended their lead in the seventh scoring two more times for a 4-0 lead. But ECU wouldn’t go away as Bryson Worrell blasted a three-run home run scoring Nick Barber and Alec Burleson in front of him.

Campbell answered with two more in the home half of the eight extending the lead to 6-3 on Matthew Christian’s two-run shot. Once again, ECU rallied back tying the game at six-all in the ninth on Burleson’s first collegiate home run, a three-run shot to opposite field.

ECU returns to action on Friday, Feb. 22 when it plays host to Monmouth in a three-game set at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. (ET).
