Friday night brings us the 54th edition of the “Mullet Bucket” game between East Carteret and West Carteret. The Patriots will be hosting the latest installment of the rivalry.
West Carteret has dominated the series over the last decade. The Patriots are 10-2 since 2007, the Mariners lone wins came in 2007 and 2015.
East Carteret’s head coach B.J. Frazier is leading the Mariner’s in his second “Mullet Bowl” but the ECHS alum is very familiar with the rivalry.
“A huge rivalry between East and West,” said Fraizer. “I was fortunate enough to play in it for my four years of high school and now I get to coach in it heading into my second year, looking for a different result from what we had last year and looking forward to the game.”
It’s impossible to tell who will win before the two teams kick off, but what is for sure is that the stands are going to be packed when these two square off.
“”It’s huge, the rivalry is huge,” said West Carteret head coach, Daniel Barrow. “It’s something that everybody, even if they don’t come to a football game all year, they will make sure that they come to this one. It’s one where the stadium will be absolutely packed out, standing room only, they will be three or four deep along the fence, it’s something that everybody gets up for.”
