Due to the forecast of flood-producing rainfall and projected widespread wind damage from Hurricane Florence, the 2018 Pirate Collegiate Classic has been cancelled according to an announcement by ECU Head Women’s Golf Coach Kevin Williams Wednesday afternoon.

The Pirates, who have hosted the annual event dating back to the Fall of 2000, were set to host the 16-team, two-day event starting Monday, Sept. 17 at the Greenville Country Club. In the 17-year history of the tournament, ECU has claimed six titles which includes a string of three-straight (2015-17) and has finished in the Top 3 on 13 occasions.

ECU (11-3) is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Minnesota Invitational where it posted a 54-hole score of 874 (10-over par). Senior Carley Cox claimed her fifth career Top 10 finish shooting a 1-over par 217 to lead the Pirates, while junior Dorthea Forbrigd earned her 14th career Top 20 placement following her 4-over par 220 for a share of 17th place.

The Pirates will return to action Monday, Oct. 8 and Tuesday, Oct. 9 participating in the Illini Women’s Invitational, which will be hosted by the University of Illinois.
