ECU junior Jake Agnos has been named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week for the third time this season, while redshirt junior Jake Washer was selected to the Honor Roll the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Haymarket, Va. native, who also named one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players-of-the-Week, earned his fifth win of the season Friday night setting the tone for No. 12 ECU’s weekend series sweep over No. 18 Connecticut. Agnos struck out a career-high 14 Huskies in a career-best 8.2 innings pushing his season total to a league-best 91, which also ranks eighth nationally. He tallied at least one punch out in all nine innings with multiple in four frames including the side in the sixth. The lefty surrendered one run on five hits with one walk, which came in the ninth inning.
Washer garnered his first career AAC Honor Roll selection after helping the Pirates to their six weekend series sweep of the year. The King, N.C. native batted .500 (5-for-10) on the week with a pair of home runs (both solo), four RBI and three runs scored. He collected at least one hit in three of four contests and reached base eight times (five hits, two walks, one hit by pitch). During the Connecticut series, he tallied four hits, drove in three runs and scored twice in the series sweep.
With the duo’s honors, it marks the 11th time this season a Pirate has earned AAC weekly accolades following Jake Agnos (pitcher/Feb. 25; pitcher/April 1; pitcher/April 22), Turner Brown (honor roll/March 11), Spencer Brickhouse (player/March 25), Alec Burleson (honor roll/Feb. 18; player/Feb. 25; honor roll/April 1), Jake Kuchmaner (pitcher/March 11; pitcher/March 18) and Washer (honor roll/April 22).
ECU (29-10) will be back in action on Tuesday, April 24 when it plays host to UNCW (20-21). First pitch at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium is slated for 6:30 p.m. (ET).
