Kristina Parrish has been named ECU’s first-ever Director of Sports Nutrition, according to an announcement by Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert Tuesday.

“We are excited about the addition of Kristina Parrish as the first full-time nutritionist for East Carolina University Athletics,” Gilbert said. “Kristina brings with her valuable experience at several athletic departments over the past five years and she will be a great collaborator with our athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches and athletic administration as we continue to educate our student-athletes about the importance of healthy eating.”

Parrish is tasked with developing a comprehensive wellness education and healthy choices program for Pirate student-athletes in all sports as well as implementing team nutritional plans – including consultation on team meals and fueling strategies. She will also coordinate and manage food production and distribution in terms of developing training table menus, catering and meals during team travel.

During her last stop as a sports dietician intern at Rutgers University, Parrish directly supervised the nutritional operations for the football, gymnastics, volleyball and women’s golf programs. She also worked as a sports nutrition intern at the University of Virginia and a student associate at the Purdue University athletic dining room.

Parrish, who earned a Master of Science in nutrition and wellness from Benedictine University in 2017 and a bachelor’s degree in dietetics and health from Purdue in 2016, is a member the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Collegiate & Professional Sports Dietitians Association.
