East Carolina continued its two week road trip in Florida on Wednesday, gearing up for the team’s American Athletic Conference opener at USF on Saturday.

It has been a week to remember for this Pirate football team. The squad was out of harm’s way, but kept up communications with family and loved ones.

“When we went through the crisis last Friday and Saturday and people wanting to know exactly where their familes were, it was a really wonderful experience,” said Pirate coach Scottie Montgomery. “To watch them all just ganged up together and looking at FaceTime and talking to each other’s family members to let them know that they were doing well, just the concern between teammates, I thought it was wonderful. These kids are directly focused on winning this football game, but we know that our hearts remain in Eastern North Carolina.”

The Pirates will leave Orlando after practice on Friday and head to Tampa for Saturday nights game with USF. Kick-off from Raymond James Stadium is set for 8pm on ESPN News.
