East Carolina University has proposed a $75 student fee increase to go toward the athletic department.

The proposal would increase the existing athletics fee by $75 and would go into effect next July if approved.

With no fee increase, ECU Athletics said there will be a projected athletics budget shortfall of $5.2 million.

ECU Athletics provided 9 On Your Side with the following statement:

“ECU’s current athletics fee is 12th lowest in the UNC System, however, we operate one of the largest athletic programs in the System. We have tried very diligently to keep our fee as low as possible. Student fees is one of a number of revenue sources. Efforts continue to generate revenue through increase in ticket sales, Pirate Club support, sponsorships and other revenue sources.”
