FARMVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) - - The Farmville Central boys basketball team is one of the most exciting teams to watch in Eastern North Carolina. The Jaguars are now getting ready for conference play at a perfect 13-0 and are ranked eighth in the state of North Carolina, according to Max Preps.
A reason why the Jaguars are so much fun to watch is because of the athleticism of the players. The Jaguars love to play above the rim and throw down rim rocking dunks. Whether it's in a games or in practice if the Jaguars see an opportunity for a jam they go for it. Come game time, the Jaguars love to energize the bench and the fans with big time plays.
"I like to seem them dunk because they short and I'm tall so when I see short people dunk, it just gets me riled up," said senior forward Dyquavis Wilkins. "It's exciting when you hear the crowd behind you cheering you on and stuff when you get a real big dunk."
"It's very fun," said junior guard Justin Wright. "The bench, we encourage everybody, every dunk we get hype, we just turn the gym up."
Jaguar head coach Larry Williford has led the Jaguars for 19 years and he says that this is the loosest group of players he's ever coached. If you see Farmville Central play, it's easy to see how much fun the team has out on the court.
"First of all you're going to play basketball because you wanna have fun and you love the game and that's what we try to do," said Williford. "Play hard with a purpose, have fun and if you do that night in and night out in practice it's going to carry over in the games and playing hard in games is going to be easy."
The Jaguars next take the court on Friday night when they host North Johnston.
