The No. 11 ECU baseball team picked up a series opening win over Memphis, 5-1 on Friday night. Sophomore right-hander, Chris Holba improved to 9-0 as he shut down the Tigers lineup going 7.1 innings giving up one earned run while striking out four.

The Pirates got the scoring started in the fourth when Spencer Brickhouse was able to score on a wild pitch with Dwayna Williams-Sutton at the plate. In the fifth, Jake Washer and Connor Litton provided RBI singles to give ECU some insurance runs. While Bryant Packard extended his hitting streak to 15-straight games with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Davis Kirkpartick and Zach Barnes combine to throw 1.2 innings of one-hit baseball to help close the door on the Tigers.

The two teams will close out the series on Saturday with a double-header. Freshman Alec Burleson will start in game one while Tyler Smith will get the ball in game two. According to reports former Friday starter, Trey Benton will be available out of the bullpen tomorrow.
