Tyler Golsteyn has been named an assistant coach for the East Carolina volleyball program according to an announcement by head coach Julie Torbett Monday.

“I am thrilled to add Tyler Golsteyn to our staff,” Torbett said. He brings a wealth of knowledge growing up in a volleyball family, playing at the Division I level and coaching in the Big Ten last season. I know he will add a great dimension for us with the technical side of the game. His primary duties will be working with the setters and middles, developing blocking schemes and executing video analysis through DataVolley and Volleymetrics.”

Golsteyn spent 2018 as a volunteer assistant coach at Purdue University, assisting in all aspects of individual and team training. He also helped mentor Sherridan Atkinson and Blake Mohler to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American accolades, Big Ten all-conference honors, and AVCA All-Northeast Region recognition.

“I am extremely excited for Tyler Golsteyn – one of the nation’s very finest young coaches,” Purdue head coach Dave Shondell stated. “During this past season, Tyler impressed me in every facet of his role. He was the first person in the office in the morning and last to leave at night. His skills for scouting and preparing for opponents are exceptional. Tyler has developed tremendous knowledge of all the major skill areas and coaches college athletes with purpose and aplomb. I am confident the athletes at East Carolina University will benefit from his presence on the Pirate staff.”

Golsteyn joined the Purdue staff after assisting North Dakota State to a 52-39 overall record and a 30-16 record in the Summit League over three seasons. Prior to his time with the Bison, he was a four-time Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Academic selection as a setter and libero at IPFW.

“I am extremely excited and honored to be here in Greenville working for the ECU volleyball program,” Golsteyn said. “I am grateful for the opportunity Coach Torbett has given me and I am eager to set sail. Go Pirates!

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Golsteyn has also worked extensively at the club and high school level including stints at Fort Wayne’s Bishop Luers High School, Impact VBC, Pineapple Sport One Volleyball Club, N3, and Alliance Volleyball Club.
