An entrance ramp to U.S. Route 70 in New Bern will close next week, as work continues to upgrade U.S. 70 to the future Interstate 42.
On Monday, if weather allows, the westbound entrance ramp to U.S. 70 at Clarks Road will be closed to traffic, so North Carolina Department of Transportation crews can remove the top 2.5” of existing asphalt and replace it with 2.5” of new asphalt.
If it does rain Monday, the ramp closure and road work will happen on Tuesday, March 26.
Traffic on Clarks Road will be detoured eastbound onto U.S. 70 to the exit for N.C. Route 43.
After taking the exit, traffic will drive on the bridge over U.S. 70 and turn left onto the entrance ramp for U.S. 70 West.
This work is part of a larger NCDOT project to upgrade U.S. 70 to the Future Interstate 42.
The $25.5 million project involves widening shoulders, milling and repaving 32 miles of U.S. 70, which will be renamed Interstate 42, connecting I-40 and Moorehead City.
