Wildfires Currently Burning

On a scale of 1 to 5, the National Preparedness Level for Wildfires is at a Level 5. There are currently 100 fires burning across the United States as of August 6, 2018. These fires are spread across 14 states. California, where the Carr Fire is burning, has eight active large fires. Colorado currently has 14 fires burning. There are over 1.5 million acres being affected by wildfires. This year, there have been 38,832 large wildfires and 5.1 acres have been scorched.  

Fires of Note

Carr Fire
This fire is currently one of the biggest fires burning in California. The fire has burned more than 160,000 acres. It is currently in its third week and is the sixth most destructive in the state’s history and has now destroyed more than 1,600 structures and killed seven people.

Taylor Creek and Klondike Fires
There are currently 7 major fires across the area of Southern Oregon and the Taylor Creek and Klondike fire are only two of them. The Taylor Creek Fire is currently at almost 40,000 acres in size and is just under 40% contained. The Klondike Fire on the other hand is at almost 30,000 acres in size and is only 5% contained.
